It is with great pleasure and excitement that I am the band teacher at Rondo School of Discovery. I am in my 30th year of teaching band and LOVE it. My hope is to get as many 5th and 6th graders involved in music as possible. It is a LIFELONG investment and will help your child's academics and give them a sense of positive belonging to a group (maybe all the way through high school). I believe every adult has wished they could play an instrument and here is your child's chance. I am hoping that you will support and help nurture this opportunity. You won't know until you try if it is your child's niche. By now, we should all understand the long-term benefits of participating in the performing arts at a young age.

Here are answers to some FAQ's:

- Band is a pull-out program open to all 5th and 6th grade students (no previous experience needed)

- It is TWO half hour sessions per week... schedule will go out to individual schools/classrooms

- You will not be graded. There are only a few evening concerts throughout the year for parents

- You will have to provide your own instrument and a few supplies - we will have a rental night with several vendors to choose from. If you cannot make that evening, you will get a list of area music stores. If you want to purchase an instrument, new or used, PLEASE email me and I will lead you in the right direction.

- Instruments to choose from will be TROMBONE, clarinet, trumpet, alto saxophone and flute. Sorry no drums or bells currently. I will pick drum players from the wind sections at concert time.

- I will be holding a school assembly next week to introduce/play all of the instrument choices for you and then you can see which one sparks your interest.

- It is a commitment and you will be expected to practice assignments several times a week on your own to stay "in shape" so we can all move faster. There will also be a google classroom.

- You are encouraged to come and practice with the band when you are off track!!
